If you could save someone’s sight and prevent blindness in our community for less than the price of a cup of coffee would you do it?

A simple, effective and convenient way to save sight is by investing in medical research conducted by the Queensland Eye Institute (QEI) is through Workplace Giving.

All you need to do is ask your HR department to set up regular payroll deductions from each pay cycle to be donated to QEI Foundation. This lowers administration costs for our charity and you will receive an immediate pre-tax benefit!

For example, $5 per week ($260 p.a.) could fund 100 experiments to test new drugs that might protect the retina from damaging inflammation in eye disease This only costs you $3.50* pre-tax! That’s less than the price of a cup of coffee to save sight!

You probably won’t notice the difference to your pay but with your ongoing support your donation becomes a larger one over time and it has the potential to ultimately save sight, so we can have the vision to see the future.

You can even double your impact by asking your employer to match your donations! That could be $10 to QEI and it only cost you $3.50 and if your colleagues come on board too, it adds up pretty quickly! A donation of $10 per week ($520 p.a.) could enable our scientists to take a pinprick of a patient’s own eye cells and grow 10 million cells within one month. This could provide better treatment outcomes for up to 10 patients.

With no government funding the Queensland Eye Institute’s survival relies solely on the generosity of donors, businesses and the community.

Workplace Giving FAQs

My employer already has a Workplace Giving program. How can I support QEI Foundation? 

If your employer has a Workplace Giving program in place, you can donate any amount you like to QEI from your pay and receive an immediate tax benefit. There’s no need to retain receipts. Simply talk to your HR, Payroll or CSR Manager and see how you can set this up today and don’t forget to ask if your employer has a matched-funding policy to maximise your impact! You can also find QEI Foundation on major workplace Giving Platforms such as Good Company and Good2Give.

I don't have money to give right now. How else can I support QEI Foundation?

Volunteering is a great way for employees to connect to our cause in a meaningful way. Staff engagement opportunities help to foster team building, increase staff morale and workplace retention. The QEI Foundation may be able to use skilled volunteers in our projects or just use an extra hand to help with events and community activities. Some employers offer a Volunteer Day Off so it’s a great way to help out and get paid, while championing our cause! Host a beneficiary event – whether it be a cocktail party, a breakfast, dinner or lunch, you could organise an event and raise funds through ticket sales, raffles, silent and live auctions and donations from the day. Other ideas could include a bake off sale, community barbeque or a free dress day at your workplace. Take on a fitness challenge! Give up your time and physical energy to undertake a challenge that gives and gains! From cycling, triathlons, or major community events such as Bridge to Brisbane, Tour de Office and Tough Mudder. You could set up a fundraising page through Fundraise Online or Everyday Hero.

Our organisation doesn't have the budget to invest financially right now. How else can we support QEI Foundation?

Your organisation may not have capacity right now to give funding, however, your employees, suppliers and clients may well be able to!

Enabling QEI Foundation to reach out to your network through internal/external communication channels, print or electronic—is a great way to support our work!

We can generate content with you that shows how you’re supporting our work as a good corporate citizen. We would love speaking opportunities at conferences or events or the opportunity to share some content across social media, your website or newsletters.

What if my employer has Charity Partner/s and QEI isn't one of them?

Some organisations have chosen charity partners; however, if QEI is a charity close to your heart, you may be able to request that your Workplace Giving donations are directed to QEI Foundation. QEI receives no recurrent government funding and through the generosity of individuals like you, you can save sight for future generations by donating to QEI’s life-changing medical research and clinical care. Ask your employer if and when there is a scheduled partnership review and if there is any opportunity to suggest QEI Foundation as a charity partner in the future. Our Partnerships Manager can assist in this to identify opportunities to collaborate.

What if my employer doesn't have a workplace giving program?

If your employer doesn’t have workplace giving program, talk to your HR or CSR manager and see if this is something that could benefit your organisation.

In the meantime, you could contact our office and we can set you up as a regular giver with automatic regular deductions from your credit card. Alternatively, you could set up your own direct debit from your credit card or debit card or bank, and we can post or email your receipt to you to claim the tax benefit at the end of financial year.

Benefits for the charity

Millions of dollars are raised through workplace giving annually – much of which is unrestricted, sustainable support that enables charities to deliver vital services throughout Australia. If just 10% of working Australians donated $5 a week, an extra $300 million would be raised every single year. And this is before employer donation matching is added!

  • Strategic: Recurring donations from Workplace Giving allows us to predict incoming donations and better plan how to use your donations to maximize our social impact to save sight!
  • Matching Gifts: If you donate $100 to a charity outside of an employer-sponsored workplace-giving program, that $100 donation remains $100.  That’s great, but it could amount to more. Often companies will offer to match gifts made by employees either dollar-for-dollar or a percentage like 50%. So if you donate that same $100 through your workplace giving campaign instead of outside of it, that $100 can easily become as much as $200 that your designated charity receives.
  • Reduce Administrative Costs: Workplace Giving significantly reduces administrative costs for charities because rather than processing thousands of individual donations, one lump-sum is paid directly to the charity from all the cumulative donations from an organisation’s employees and in most cases with matched-funding from the employer.
  • Payroll Contribution: Donations made by credit card may attract fees. By giving directly from your payroll, there are no associated fees attached to your donation and you can make smaller, more financially manageable amounts to be deducted from your pay, which add up over time!

Some workplaces choose to manage the administration in-house and payroll simply collate all employee Workplace Giving donations and transfer a lump-sum each month. If you would like to do this, please contact our office so we are aware and can support your program.
