The support we receive through the fundraising efforts of individuals, schools, organisations and businesses is vital to the ongoing delivery of our medical research, support services and clinical care for Queenslanders who are blind or vision impaired.

With no government funding the Queensland Eye Institute relies on support from all of these people and groups and everyone has a different idea of how they can help out. It’s not just about the donations either; your help in spreading the word about the work of the Queensland Eye Institute and the services we provide is just as important and appreciated.

What to do to get started?

1. Choose a fundraising idea or event

Throughout the year, our supporters hold sausage sizzles, movie nights or golf days to raise funds. Some ideas to inspire you:

  • Hold a quiz night, morning tea or themed function with gold coin donations, penalties, guessing competitions and raffles;
  • Challenge yourself to a fun run or bike ride;
  • Add an auction or raffle to an existing event;
  • Get people to sponsor you for a sporting event or challenge;
  • Hold a bingo or quiz night;
  • Mufti day or a bad taste tie day is a favourite in workplaces;

The best advice we can give you is keep it simple, make it fun and ask around.

2. Register your event or activity

When your registration is received, a member of the fundraising team will contact you to discuss your fundraising activity and provide you with an authority to fundraise. There is government legislation that requires people raising money to hold a Letter of Authorisation issued by the organisation they are helping. This applies to individuals, groups, workplaces or organisations. The Queensland Eye Institute can issue these letters once we approve your event or activity.

3. Start fundraising

Promote your event to friends, family, neighbours and anyone you want to attend and most importantly have fun!

Everyday Hero provides a convenient and easy platform to raise funds for us online. Using Everday Hero allows you to:

  • Easily build your own supporter page which you can use to inspire others, post updates, photos and videos and ask for sponsorship.
  • Leave the administrative stuff to someone else so you can focus on what you're passionate about - not receipts and reconciliation. Everyday Hero processes every donation from your sponsors, issues the tax-deductible receipt (if applicable) to the donor instantly by email, and deposits the money directly to the Queensland Eye Institutes bank account.
  • Inspire your networks by emailing, posting, tweeting (and talking!) to your networks to show them what you are doing and why. We know the charity or cause your supporting means a lot to you, so ask for your friends, family and wider networks' help to spread the word. Remember – the more people you tell, the more help you will receive!
  • Show gratitude - every time someone sponsors you through your supporter page, you will receive an email with details on your supporter (unless they wish to remain anonymous), so you can take the opportunity to say a BIG thank you and tell them how they've helped.

If any of these ideas inspire you, or if you have your own great idea, then we’d love to hear from you. To notify us of your intention to fundraise, please register your event with us now via the online link above, contact us via email or phone 07 3239 5050 during office hours.
