Dr Petcu obtained his MD in Romania, followed by a Master of Health Sciences degree at the University of Auckland’s School of Medicine, New Zealand. He then trained in pathology at Mallory Institute of Pathology, University of Boston, USA. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology, a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, and holds a Registered Physician License in the state of Massachusetts. Dr Petcu obtained also a PhD in neurobiology awarded with magna cum laudae by the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald, Germany.
Dr Petcu is currently an academic pathologist and senior lecturer at Griffith University School of Medicine, Queensland, where he conducts research in the area of regenerative medicine, with a special interest in the role of angiogenesis in tissue regeneration. He is a founding member of the regenerative medicine unit within the Centre for Oral Health and Medicine in the School of Medicine. Dr Petcu holds professorships at two universities in Romania and medical registrations in Australia, Norway and Romania. He is the founder of the Australasian Immunohistochemistry Society. He serves on the editorial board of several BioMed Central and Frontiers journals.
