Queensland Electro-Diagnostic and Imaging Centre (QEDIC)

When visual function becomes impaired, electro-diagnostic tests can help pinpoint the source of the malfunction.

The Queensland Electro-Diagnostic & Imaging Centre (QEDIC) is a tertiary referral clinic within the Queensland Eye Institute which assists doctors and ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

QEDIC offers a series of visual tests which permit the investigation of visual disorders and enable suitable management of patients who have retinal or optic nerve disorders. They are non-invasive and provide information on the eye and visual function not otherwise available. The tests are an important addition to normal eye investigation and examination, and help clinicians distinguish between different eye disorders that may have the same symptoms.

Tests provided by QEDIC include Multifocal Electroretinography, Electro-oculography, and various tests to measure Visual Evoked Potentials, including the ability to objectively measure visual acuity. Unlike many other visual tests, these tests are objective, repeatable and non-invasive. Tests are provided to patients of all ages from new-born babies to the elderly.

We perform the following test procedures:

  • Electroretinogram (ERG)
  • Pattern ERG
  • Multifocal ERG
  • Electrooculogram
  • Visually Evoked Potential (VEP)
  • Albinism VEP
  • Visual Acuity (Sweep VEP)
  • Colour Vision - FM

We receive referrals to our centre not only locally in Brisbane but throughout Queensland and Northern NSW region. All tests are carried out in accordance with international standards established by the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision.
